The land of Lords Rama and Krishna, Uttar Pradesh, commonly known as UP, has provided intellectual, cultural, religious and political leadership to the people of India and the world at large since time immorial. Here are some interesting facts about UP:

Uttar Pradesh is the fifth largest state of India. Divided into 70 districts, it has Lucknow as its capital. Click here for the map of UP.
Uttar Pradesh is bounded by Nepal on the North, Uttaranchal on the northwest, Madhya Pradesh on the south, Haryana on the west, Rajasthan on the southwest, and Bihar on the east.
Wheat, rice, sugar cane, apples, mango, pulses, oil seeds and potatoes are the main crops of Uttar Pradesh.
UP has a fine balance of agricultural and industrial economies. Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Allahabad, Varanasi, NOIDA, Meerut and Ghaziabad are major industrial centers.

The service sector comprises of travel and tourism, hotel industry, real estate, insurance and financial consultancies.

The state attracts a large number of tourists. The famous Taj Mahal of Agra is also located in this state.
From religious viewpoint, important cities in this state are Allahabad, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura. The state also hosts the world famous 'Kumbh Mela'.

UP's festivals speak of its rich cultural and traditional background. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian all celebrate their festivals according to their customs and rituals.
